Asking for your data as an agency worker or contractor

If you work through an agency, an umbrella company or your own company, more than one organisation may hold data about you. You can ask each of them.

Who holds what

  • The agency: your registration, assignments, timesheets, pay and anything clients told them about you.
  • An umbrella company, if you use one: your payroll and tax records.
  • The client where you work: emails and messages about you, feedback on your work, site access and CCTV, and any complaints or investigations.

Send separate requests

Each organisation answers for the data it holds, so send a request to each one that matters to you. The same template works for all of them; change the name and what you're asking for.

If you work through your own company

Your company is a business, but you're still a person. The client holds personal data about you, such as emails and feedback, and you can ask for that.

What to put in your request

  • From the agency: assignment, pay and feedback records
  • From the client: emails, feedback and access records about you
  • From an umbrella company: payroll records
